Future Philanthropist, Servant Leader, Author & Speaker Launches Beacon Place to Tackle Homelessness Crisis
Tulsa,, Oklahoma, United States, 12th Jun 2023, King NewsWire – After years of dedicated service in various homeless shelters, Mr. Michael Von Pennington, known by his stage name Michael Devine, is proud to announce the launch of Beacon Place, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing comprehensive support and resources to homeless individuals and families. With a proven track record of excellence in the field, Devine is determined to make a lasting impact on the crisis of homelessness in Oklahoma and beyond.
Having spent over nine years meticulously crafting his vision, Devine drew inspiration from the countless clients he encountered during his tenure in emergency night shelters. Many of them expressed their longing for a shelter where they could feel safe and supported. Their unwavering belief in Devine’s ability to create such a haven spurred him on to turn their dreams into reality.
Devine’s journey as a compassionate caregiver began in 2014 at the Denver Rescue Mission in Colorado, where he served the community until 2017. He then continued his mission at the Tulsa Day Center in Oklahoma from 2017 to 2020. Throughout his time as a facility assistant, supervisor, and night manager, Devine established his unique brand of service, delivering consistent and exceptional emergency shelter to homeless individuals across the country.
His dedication to supporting the homeless community extends back to his early days in Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he engaged in homeless outreach programs on the beaches in collaboration with Calvary Chapel churches and other local organizations. Notably, Devine made nightly food runs at midnight to the infamous “tent city” in War Memorial’s Veterans Park from 1992 to 1994. His extraordinary commitment attracted the attention of Hue Keith, a local businessman, who became an ardent supporter of his causes. Inspired by his employee’s efforts, Keith encouraged Devine to expand his assistance to other homeless agencies. Devine’s late oldest brother, Sgt. William Curtis Newton, a Vietnam Veteran, and his mother, a compassionate nurse, were also significant influences on his desire to serve those in need.
In 2003, Devine’s vision received a profound endorsement from Mother Grace Tucker, a legendary figure in the homeless community and the founder of the first homeless facility in North Tulsa, the House of Prayer. Though she had never met Devine, Mother Tucker recognized his potential and asked for his help in rebuilding the facility. This encounter further ignited Devine’s passion for serving those in need. Devine’s late mother, a nurse who passed away in 1989, was also instrumental in instilling in him a deep sense of compassion and care for others.
Today, Devine’s integrity and commitment to community-based collaboration are widely recognized. His unwavering dedication to his mission has earned him a reputation as a compassionate leader and innovator in the field of homelessness. He possesses the rare combination of integrity, accountability, and unwavering passion required to effect lasting change.
To realize his vision on a national scale, Devine seeks funding of $2-3 million to establish a robust foundation for Beacon Place. A sizable building space is essential to ensure longevity and maximize the impact of the initiative. Drawing from his experiences and genuine originality, Devine aims to revolutionize the approach to homelessness in Oklahoma, offering a model that can be replicated across the country.
Beacon Place is not just an organization; it is a testament to the power of compassion and the potential for transformative change. With Devine at the helm, this visionary endeavor is poised to make a profound impact on homelessness in Oklahoma and serve as a catalyst for change nationwide.
